Post 34: Troy University Clarinet Day 3/28/15
On Saturday, March 28th, I had the honor of attending Troy University’s 8th Annual Clarinet Day, hosted by Dr. Timothy Phillips, Associate Professor of Clarinet.
It was held at Troy’s brand new John M. Long School of Music—an absolutely beautiful facility! I had the pleasure of being a vendor at the event, representing both Onks Woodwind Specialist and Clarinets by Copeland. As part of my services, I set up a repair table and offered complimentary repairs and adjustments to the event guests throughout the day. I also offered some top-of-the-line used clarinets that had been refurbished and made to play and look just as good (if not better!) than new. It was awesome to share my passion with young clarinetists and to help make their instruments better. I met several great players and a lot of very friendly students and parents. I love my career!
In addition to my services, and those of the other vendors, the students were able to enjoy master classes, recitals, and rehearsals all day long. They experienced some of the most talented clarinetists in the world, including Jean-Francois Bescond, Jan Jakub Bokun, Jeff Brooks, Wonkak Kim, Wojtek Komsta, Joshua Meitz, Katrina Phillips, Timothy Phillips, Jennifer Tinberg, and Grace EunHye Choi (pianist). What an amazing display of talent! Between recitals and masterclasses, students rehearsed throughout the day and performed a clarinet choir concert at the end of the day. I was amazed by what they could achieve with just a few hours of rehearsal time!
In conclusion, Clarinet Day hosted by Troy University was a huge success, and a joy to be a part of! Dr. Phillips – thank you for inviting me – and I hope to join you again in the future! -Jonathan Copeland
